ABOUT THE TRAVEL INSTITUTE

The Travel Institute is an international, nonprofit organization that educates and certifies travel industry professionals at all career stages. Since its inception in 1964, The Travel Institute's mission has been to increase professionalism within the travel industry and to create national standards of excellence for travel professionals through its educational programs. The Travel Institute's programs encompass all career stages for the travel professional from entry level to executive.

Certified Travel Counselor (CTC)

The CTC designation is the pinnacle of travel industry professionalism. Over 30,000 travel professionals have earned the CTC designation since The Travel Institute's inception.

The CTC curriculum covers three core skill areas: business development, contemporary issues, and professional development. CTC candidates are required to complete 12 courses in which they learn how to negotiate effectively, make dynamic presentations, analyze new business opportunities, implement technological solutions, plan for the future, and more.

The first level of The Travel Institute certification, the CTA, must be successfully completed in order to earn the CTC designation.

CTCs must possess at least five years of full-time travel industry experience and are required to earn ten continuing education credits each year to maintain their designation.

CTCs and CTAs make up the Institute's over 8,000 members. In order to remain active members, CTCs and CTAs must maintain membership in The Travel Institute and complete ten Continuing Education Units (CEUs) each year.

TSE has one (1) Certified Travel Industry Executive (CTIE), nine (9) Certified Travel Counselors (CTC), one (1) Certified Travel Agent (CTA), and one (1) Master Cruise Counselor (MCC) on their staff of travel professionals. Each counselor has two or more destination specialties (DS), as well.
